In less than a decade Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport emerged from obscurity as one of the fastest growing commercial airports in North America. The Toronto Port Authority (TPA), operator of the airport, wanted to explain the importance of the airport to the community and municipal politicians.
The TPA commissioned InterVISTAS to conduct an economic impact study of the airport in 2012 and up to that point. A focus of this analysis was considering the role that the airport played in the development of the Greater Toronto area’s key developed and emerging economic clusters.
The results of the study were released at the same time that the airport announced a major infrastructure project. The economic impact results were used to show the scale of the airport’s impacts and to assist in explaining how the island airport assisted the Province of Ontario as well as connecting Toronto with major urban centres such as New York and Chicago.
