Passenger Traffic Forecasts Update Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport 2007-2017

The Challenge

In December 2007, InterVISTAS and YVRAS produced long term air traffic forecasts for SCL, which forecast annual passenger volumes and aircraft movements from 2007 to 2027. These forecasts were completed before the full effects of the global recession of 2008 and 2009 became apparent.

In September 2009, InterVISTAS and YVRAS were commissioned to produce an update of the air passenger forecasts.

Our Role

InterVISTAS developed an update of the forecast for the first ten years of the forecast period (2007 to 2017) to reflect current economic conditions and the outlook for recovery. To produce the updated forecasts, expert judgment, along with recent economic and air transport developments were been used to recalibrate the models, providing a robust indication of traffic volumes at SCL based on current information.

Several of the study’s outputs were be used as inputs to an infrastructure plan for the airport.
