Houston Airport System – Route Development Support – New Intercontinental Nonstop Service

The Challenge

In 2009, the Houston Airports System developed a strategy to help bring in more air service to support the transition of Bush Intercontinental Airport from a SkyTeam gateway to a Star Alliance one. Comprehensive efforts to bring Turkish Airlines into the market for local and connecting synergies began with this strategy. Enhanced analysis of Air China also was tied to this strategy.

Our Role

InterVISTAS has provided broad based project support to Houston over a three year period on this project, including:

  • Airline Meeting Support
  • Passenger & Cargo Airline Presentations
  • Incentive Support
  • Strategic Planning
  • Market Overview Reports
  • Facilitation Support ASD
  • Demographic Research

Results

In June 2012, Turkish Airlines announced new four-times weekly nonstop service between Houston and Istanbul scheduled to commence in April 2013.  In January 2013, Air China announced new four-times weekly nonstop to Beijing. Both flights also closely mirrored the schedule proposed from HAS/InterVISTAS timed to maximize connectivity to key beyond destinations.
