Hartley Bay is a small, remote community on the Inside Passage. The Hartley Bay Band Council wants to develop an airstrip for medical and other emergencies and tourism development, as well as improved quality of life.
InterVISTAS examined the difficult topography of the region and looked at the potential of locating and building an airstrip. This airstrip would serve as a stimulus for the region in terms of tourism and medical evacuations which is often a challenge from Hartley Bay.
InterVISTAS review 3 potential options for a runway strip and recommended the best fit option to the region. The project team suggested further steps be considered to further examine the selected site from a geo-technical and engineering aspect. The Band Council is seeking funding from senior government to develop the proposed air strip.
