The El Paso International Airport (ELP) sought guidance on the establishment of a new air cargo perishables facility located in the airport’s air cargo area. ELP required advice as to which perishable commodities would be the best fit for the perishables facility so that it could target marketing efforts as well as provide the necessary services to enable business growth and success.
InterVISTAS completed a market study for the ELP air cargo perishables facility by conducting intensive stakeholder interviews to identify perishable and temperature-sensitive commodities that would potentially benefit from use of the facility. InterVISTAS also analyzed the perishables market using data on U.S. air imports by country of origin and U.S. Customs District. A competitive analysis was also performed whereby relevant facilities at U.S. airports were inventoried to quantify capabilities, total available space and prevailing lease rates.
InterVISTAS developed recommendations and action plans for ELP related to the marketing and operation of the perishables facility. Some of these action plans have been successfully employed and ELP is currently experiencing ad-hoc usage of the perishables facility by businesses located within close proximity to the airport’s air cargo area.
