2010 Olympic Games Economic Analysis

The Challenge

InterVISTAS was commissioned by the B.C. provincial government to review and substantially update an economic impact study it had conducted on the potential economic impact of hosting the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. The analysis was required to show the potential impacts of the games.

Our Role

The analysis involved estimating the impact generated by construction activity, event management, and tourism spending. Various scenarios were developed in order to determine the range of likely outcomes and the impact of economic growth, marketing and world events on the economic impact.


These results were used by the Provincial Government to the public and the media to explain what the potential economic impacts of the 2010 games on British Columbia. This was critical information to achieve a yes vote on a referendum.
