Alaska Cruiseship Passenger and Baggage Process Improvements

The Challenge

Tens of millions of passengers have enjoyed the Alaska cruiseship experience through Vancouver International Airport.  However for Americans transiting through Vancouver, complex border requirements mandated numerous bag pick-up and drop-off steps due to a transit from the United States (lower 48 states) to Canada (Vancouver) and then back to the United States (Alaska).

Our Role

To simplify the process, InterVISTAS supported Vancouver International Airport, cruiselines, airlines, US/Canada federal government agencies to allow for seamless baggage processing.  The US Direct program allows passengers to check in their bag at the home airport, be expedited through border processes, and be greeted by their bag right on the cruiseship.  To return to the US, an on-board check-in program simplified the airline process with secure bag transfers right from the passenger’s cabin.

Passengers satisfaction was greatly increased and the programs allowed for further development of the cruiseship industry in Vancouver.  Improved handling of large groups also resulted for all stakeholders.
