After a series of serious violent crimes adjacent to and on light rail routes that garnered significant public and media attention, the City of Calgary needed a comprehensive review of public safety operations at Calgary Transit.
InterVISTAS led a team of professionals to review and recommend changes to light rail transit operations and planning. From the degree of lighting in facilities, closed-circuit television camera placement as well as the planning of land uses around stations, the team spent 9 months conducting an in-depth review to leading practices around the world.
The InterVISTAS study uncovered serious problems of perception and reality of safety on Calgary Transit.
InterVISTAS made substantial recommendations for crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) and supported future plans for transit-oriented developments in the City of Calgary.
