With its strategic location as a gateway to the emerging Eastern European region, Budapest Airport sought to evaluate and pursue opportunities for growing alliance connectivity at BUD.
InterVISTAS developed a network model to determine the viability of new routes and the optimal hub and network structure. Multiple iterations of the analysis were undertaken with consideration given to the following key inputs:
- Hub bank timing
- Alliance airlines
- Level of code-sharing
- Flight frequency
- Aircraft type
- Competitor reaction
Based on the analytical results, target airlines were prioritized and detailed business cases, including full route analyses, were prepared and presented to alliance member airlines. Business case presentations were presented to the target airlines at headquarters meetings and industry conferences.
The hub development program has been highly successful and directly assisted Budapest Airport in securing new non-stop service to New York City by American Airlines.
