The Puerto Rico Tourism Company retained InterVISTAS to develop a comprehensive strategic plan to develop their tourism industry and transportation system. Puerto Rico was facing fierce competition from other Caribbean destinations and travel was down dramatically following 9/11. A new approach was needed to bring government officials and industry leaders together to develop and agree on an integrated strategy for the future.
InterVISTAS completed a comprehensive strategic planning process:
- Analyzed tourism and transportation trends & their impact on Puerto Rico
- Situation analysis looking at their infrastructure and product offering
- Competitive analysis relative to other major destinations
InterVISTAS facilitated workshops with leaders of the local tourism industry and organised a major Tourism Forum for 125 hotels, airlines, cruise lines, tour operators and meeting co-ordinators from around the world to gather their input and buy-in for a new strategy.
The Plan was strongly supported by the tourism industry and officially endorsed as official Government Policy by the Governor of Puerto Rico. The Plan helped the industry respond to various competitive challenges and threats and build visitor arrivals to the region.
