The Need
As a popular tourism destination, Charlottetown Airport Authority and the Government of Prince Edward Island sought new air routes to reduce traffic leakage and stimulate additional air travel.
Our Role
InterVISTAS undertook a detailed leakage analysis to accurately quantify the potential demand for air travel to/from Charlottetown, and worked with both airport and government in pursuing new air services.
Based on the analysis, a number of strategic recommendations were made on air service development initiatives for the airport. Implementation included several important activities, including:
- Undertaking detailed route profitability forecasts
- Developing business cases for new routes
- Presenting business cases to target airlines
- Evaluating and negotiating financial incentive packages
Results
The route development program was highly successful, resulting in new services to several hub airports: Toronto, Detroit, Boston and New York JFK.
